  • Overview

    SkyePoint Decisions, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated, team-oriented individual to fill the role of Security Engineer / Nessus Administrator with a focus area of Tenable Nessus Enterprise System Administration to join our team supporting the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Networks and Security Operations Division.


    The role will involve support of the agencies version of the DHS Continuous Diagnostic Monitoring (CDM) program, using Tenable Nessus to identify system vulnerabilities. Normal tasks will include (but not limited to): Installing and maintaining Tenable Nessus software (systems Center and scanners); interfacing with other team members to ensure the Nessus platform properly scans all EPA assets once every 72 hours; adjusting scan configurations as required; performing “ad hoc” scans of devices for special purposes; support EPA information security personal in understanding scanning output and VCE resolution; resolving Nessus platform issues.


    • Formulates/defines system scope and objectives.
    • Devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results.
    • Prepares detailed specifications for programs. Assists in the design, development, testing, implementation, and documentation of new software and enhancements of existing applications.
    • Works with project managers, developers, and end users to ensure application designs meet business requirements.
    • Formulates/defines specifications for complex operating software programming applications or modifies/maintains complex existing applications using engineering releases and utilities from the manufacturer.
    • Designs, codes, tests, debugs, and documents those programs.
    • Provides overall operating system, such as sophisticated file maintenance routines, large telecommunications networks, computer accounting, and advanced mathematical/scientific software packages.
    • Assists all phases of software systems programming applications.
    • Evaluates new and existing software products.
    • Submit and respond to tickets using a central ticketing system such as Remedy
    • Provide reports as needed using the Microsoft Office Suite
    • Submit and perform changes in the agency system
    • Provide outage notifications and update outage reports
    • Prepares or ensures that appropriate network documentation exists, including operational instructions.
    • May coordinate third-party maintenance for equipment.
    • Provides technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems. Solutions are imaginative, thorough, practicable and consistent with organization objectives.
    • Contributes to completion of specific programs and projects.
    • Works under very general direction and independently determines and develops approach to solutions. Work may be reviewed upon completion for adequacy in meeting objectives.


    • Experience using a central ticketing system such as Remedy
    • Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite
    • Experience using Microsoft Visio for drawings
    • Experience following a change management system to submit and perform changes


    BS or MS equivalent + 2 to 4 years hands on experience supporting Tenable Nessus



    Certificate of Proficiency for Nessus and Security Center (highly desired)
